JAZZ SUPPER CLUB SERIES | The Nice Work Jazz Combo

The Nice Work Jazz Combo at Boulder’s new Jazz Venue, the Full Cycle Cafe - featuring Heidi Schmidt (v), Pete Lewis (s), Jason Malmberg (b), Jerry Weiss (p), and Brian Kauffman (d). 

 Nice Work's style is rooted in mid-century modern jazz, with original arrangements of jazz classics and deep cuts including swing, ballads, funk, Bossa-Nova, and Afro-Cuban. They have been featured in live performances on KUVO jazz radio, were awarded a Pathways To Jazz grant to record a recently released CD, have performed at Denver's Five Point Jazz Festival.

 Heidi Schmidt is one of Colorado’s finest jazz singers who honors the tradition of jazz styling and phrasing with a great range and soulful expression. She has danced with gypsies, shared coffee with Bedouins, sipped tea in the House of Lords, sung jazz for Transylvanian Franciscan monks – her delivery is shaped by rich experience. Heidi launched her professional singing career in Eastern Europe, refined it touring throughout Western Europe, and produced three albums while living in Romania. Now back in hometown Denver, Heidi has won numerous awards and earned a following on the local jazz scene, singing with the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, the Nice Work and other ensembles throughout the state.

Los Bohemios is one of Colorado’s favorite Latin bands. They play traditional acoustic Cuban Son, Salsa, Cumbia, and Boleros; Mexican folklorica; and Latin Rock and Latin Jazz. Their music is infectiously joyful, beautiful and irresistibly danceable. They offer beautiful 3-part harmony, Spanish guitars, acoustic bass and Latin percussion to create danceable salsa rhythms in the style of Buena Vista Social Club or Gloria Estefan, and romantic ballads in the style of Los Panchos.

The band features Chris Hansen on trumpet, Neil Kolwey on saxophone, Tom Leifer on guitar, Matt Powelson on bass, and Bret Mann on drums. Many members of this all star lineup have been local fixtures in Boulder's music scene for years, and have played with the likes of local jazz legend Art Lande, toured Europe with bass guitar virtuoso Dean Peer, and have even opened for "his high-ness" Snoop Dogg in Vail, CO.

Rico Jones returns to Boulder from NYC to perform one night only at The Full Cycle Cafe with his all-star Jazz Quintet: The Sum of All Colors. They willperform an evening of America’s great straight ahead jazz repertoire. These musicians have come together for this one event and it is not to be missed! Featuring Harold Summey-drums, Bill McCrossen-bass, Eric Gunnison-piano, Brad Goode-trumpet, Marcus Firillo-guitar.

Rico Jones is one of the top young saxophonists of his generation. He will perform an evening of Jazz Standards, Straight Ahead, Ballads, Bebop and whatever they cook up. Rico and two of his ensembles received a total of  4 Downbeat awards for the 2020 edition of their SDA program including “Jazz Soloist”, “Small Jazz Ensemble” and two awards in the “Latin Jazz” category.  Playing with Rico on Saturday night are some of the most esteemed top jazz musicians.
